AI has become an integral part of everyday testing work.

The current relationship between artificial intelligence and software testing – what do the results of our comprehensive survey conducted at HUSTEF show?
At the 2025 HUSTEF conference, more than 220 IT professionals participated in a survey conducted by Masterfield, which examined the current relationship between AI and software testing. The responses provide insights into how artificial intelligence is shaping the everyday work of testers, what opportunities and challenges it brings, and how much professionals actually fear it. Check out the results of our survey:
AI Has Entered the Testing World – and It’s No Longer Just a Guest
The results are clear: AI is no longer the future; it has become a part of testers’ everyday work. But how do professionals see it? With fear, or with curiosity and enthusiasm? The answer leans heavily toward the latter.
Testers’ New Helper
More than half of respondents – 51.1% – already use AI in their work on a daily or weekly basis. This is a huge leap compared to just a few years ago, when it was considered merely an experimental tool. Many describe it as a digital colleague who never tires and is almost always available for quick analysis, code review, or test data generation.
"AI doesn’t work instead of me; it works alongside me," one respondent aptly put it. Of course, some still don’t use these tools regularly (around 11.89%), but most agree that it’s only a matter of time.
Where Does It Help the Most?
Testers say AI provides the greatest relief in creative, time-consuming, or repetitive tasks. Most use it for test planning and test case creation (53.74%), test automation (51.98%), and data generation or requirements analysis (around 26.84%). This shows that AI is not dominating a single area; it appears wherever repetitive patterns and decisions exist—exactly where human creativity is less dominant, but logic prevails.
Growing Knowledge Appetite and Testers Ready for AI
According to the survey, testers feel it’s important to keep pace with AI development. In fact, a large portion (41.85%) consider it one of the most important areas to focus on in the coming years. Only a tiny minority – just a few percent – feel that AI is irrelevant to their work. This demonstrates that the profession is not afraid of AI but eager to learn how to leverage it effectively.
"AI is now at the stage automated testing was a few years ago. Initially, few dared to try it; today, it’s indispensable," wrote another respondent.

AI Is Everywhere, but Not Everyone Trusts It Yet
Although most testers have already used AI, trust is not yet complete. According to the survey, over 63.96% of respondents cited a lack of confidence in the results as the biggest obstacle. Many worry that the generated code or suggestions may not always be accurate and could easily cause errors without human review. In addition, immature tools (33.33%) and a lack of knowledge within teams (32.88%) also slow down broader adoption. In other words, the technology is ready, but people still need to learn how to use it effectively.

Threat or Opportunity?
Perhaps the most exciting question—and the responses from HUSTEF are reassuring. Nearly half of testers believe that AI is not a threat, just a new tool to learn how to use. About one-third think that AI will affect junior testers the most, as it can automate many basic tasks. But the majority are optimistic: they see AI not as a job taker, but as something that elevates the profession.
As one respondent put it:
"AI doesn’t replace thinking; it just makes it faster and more efficient."
The Future of Testing: Human and Machine Hand in Hand
The HUSTEF 2025 survey makes one thing clear: AI is here to stay. It won’t replace testing—it will transform it. AI will be involved in generating test data, automatically detecting errors, creating reports, and performing analyses. The coming years will be about learning how to collaborate with it. Those who start today will have a competitive advantage tomorrow—because AI is not an enemy, but a diligent new colleague for testers.
